Five days. Four nights. Dozens of miles of mountain water.
Virginia Outside’s Highland Fly Fishing Expedition is an immersive mountain fly-fishing camp designed for young anglers ready to take their fishing to the next level. Based at Douthat State Park, campers spend the week tent camping, learning to cast, tie flies, read trout water, learning about river conservation and aquatic insects and how to utilize dry-fly, nymphing and streamer techniques while exploring western Virginia’s trout and smallmouth bass streams and rivers. From their first cast Monday afternoon to an independent fly-fishing challenge on Friday morning, campers build the skills, confidence and outdoor knowledge to become capable, thoughtful fly anglers.
A minimum of 6 campers is required for this camp to run. We begin rolling registration on December 1, 2026!
