Southwest Virginia Fly Fishing

Deep in the hills of Southwest Virginia, join us for a weeklong immersion in the art and adventure of fly fishing. Based in Lebanon, VA, campers stay in a cozy riverside cabin provided by Riverbound Xstream (or choose to tent camp along the creek) on the banks of Big Cedar Creek, with access to both private and public trout and smallmouth waters.

Through the week, campers will:

  • Learn fly fishing skills — casting techniques, knots, fly selection, reading water, and “match the hatch” strategies
  • Fish private and public waters — targeting Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Smallmouth Bass in streams and tailwaters
  • Float on rafts and canoes (when flows permit) to cover more water efficiently
  • Fly tying — craft your own flies to use on the stream
  • Camp under the stars — sleep in the cabin or pitch a tent by the creek, with full access to bathroom and shower facilities

Dependent on river flows, campers will float on oar-rigged rafts, with fishing frames, or canoes to cover as much water as possible. Campers will also have opportunities to explore nearby waters, such as the South Holston tailwater, famous for its large trout.

This camp is designed for ages 12–16, skill levels from beginner to intermediate, and no prior experience is required. With a small group (eight campers maximum), participants receive personalized coaching from experienced staff who aim to help each camper become a confident, self-sufficient fly angler.

Meals are prepared by staff or as camper teams in the cabin’s kitchen; everyone gathers on the covered porch to eat and share stories. Evenings around the campfire bring s’mores, storytelling, and the soothing sound of flowing water

Join us for a great week of fun in the sun, big adventures, exciting experiences, and lifelong memories with new friends.

Lodging/Food: We will be staying at a cabin just outside of Lebanon, VA, that sits alongside a private section of a trout stream. Campers will have the option to bunk up in the cabin or tent camp in the field along the banks of the stream and enjoy sleeping under the stars while still having full access to a bathroom and shower. All meals will be prepared by our staff or as camper teams utilizing the full kitchen within the cabin. The cabin has a large covered porch where we will eat most meals and expect to enjoy some s’mores by the campfire at the end of the day.

Transportation: Transportation from Richmond to Lebanon is available, or close off any exit along the I-64/81 corridor between Richmond and Roanoke. Campers can also be dropped off on location on the first day of camp. Please contact us if you have any questions about transportation.

See you Outside!
